Meeting Notes - 10/31

Attending were Steve Finegold, Marianne Ludwig, Desiree Schmitt, Doug Copeland, Walter Wright, and Colin Park . Following our initial fundraising it was agreed the we need to become more organized, documented, and transparent in fiscal matters. In recognition of this we created the following positions:

Chair Stephen Finegold
Secretary Doug Copeland
Treasurer Marianne Ludwig
Development Desiree Schmitt

We will develop our mission statement, create a membership list, keep minutes for meetings and put on our website.
Steve has contacted a student group ( called "Frame of Mind") at Ignatius High School and they are interested in supporting and expanding our website. Steve will give direction and prioritize their work to make our website more complete and effective. Suggestions were made for adding content to the site.
Walter and Desiree updated us on the Tech Soup offer we want to use to provide access points at Pilgrim Church, Scoops, and Civilization as part of our pilot phase of promoting Twifi. Tech Soup program has some open issues centered on cost of ongoing support and both TWDC and Twifi feel we must clear this up before going further. We think this can be resolved in a few business days and then we can commit to ordering these 3 packages with money already raised. We also feel that we want to focus on using Cisco hardware for routers and access points. The Tech Soup package includes one access point and 8 wireless cards; we must decide with each package if we want cards for laptops or desktop computers.
We discussed the fairness and potential liability of recommending individuals and/or businesses for support in installing wifi. We feel that we should follow the TWDC model of providing names of those have worked successfully with us in the past but make clear that this does not constitute a recommendation. We also decided to call the pilot phase of our program open until February 2004 (our one year anniversary).
Our next meeting is planned for Tuesday, November 4 at 3PM at Scoops.
