The still fairly new volleyball team is having a very dynamic season. With the hard work and effort by coach Rusty Opper, the team advanced to its first state tournament. They won their first district game against a tough North Olmsted team at Union Town Lake High School three games to zero. Junior middle hitter, Matt Adler, played an outstanding game using his height to come up with beautiful spikes and returns. Matt received a lot of help from senior setter Ben Smith. Along with the sensational serving work by senior Dan Bizek and the all around performance by senior team captain Pete Strada, our Wildcats were just too much for North Olmsted to handle. These past years, volleyball at Ignatius has not been a varsity sport, but merely a club sport. Thanks to the hard work of Coach Opper and captain Strada, volleyball is becoming a varsity sport next year. This means the school will endorse the sport and supply the team with new uniforms, pads, and equipment, which is good news for the team. Best of luck to them this year and in future seasons. |
